What we do
fluoride.com.au tracks whether fluoride is added to public water supplies across Australia, town by town, and reports on the decisions, outages and science behind it. We are independent: we are not funded by water utilities, dental bodies, health departments, filter companies or campaign groups.
People hold strong views on fluoride, in both directions. Our job is not to tell you what to think. It is to make sure you know what is in your water, who decided, and what the evidence actually says, including the parts each side would rather leave out.
Editorial standards
- Every claim is sourced. Each article lists its sources, and we prefer primary documents: council minutes, utility water quality reports, health department papers, legislation and peer-reviewed studies.
- Town data is checked against official lists where they exist (Queensland Health's council list, NSW Health committee minutes, the Victorian fluoridation register, WA Health's fluoridated towns list, Water Corporation, SA Water and Seqwater monitoring data, and Tasmania's Economic Regulator) and against council and utility pages.
- We make a call and show our working. Every town is listed as fluoride added, not added, or natural only. Each page links to the source we relied on and shows measured levels where the utility publishes them. Where the evidence is older or indirect, the note says so. Recent and upcoming changes are flagged separately.
- We don't publish medical advice. For decisions about your or your children's teeth, talk to a dentist or doctor.
- We name system failures. If a supply goes unfluoridated for years without notice, or is overdosed, we report it, whoever is responsible.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it, note the change on the town's page, and log it on our updates and corrections page. Our full process is on the how we verify page. Water supplies change often, especially in regional Queensland and NSW, so we rely on readers to tell us when a status changes.
