How we verify

Where our town data comes from, what each status means, and how we keep it current.

The three statuses

We don't list towns as "unknown". We make a call on the best available evidence, link the source, and say in the note when that evidence is older or indirect.

Change flags

Our sources, by state

Where official pages are inaccessible, we use parliamentary records, local news and archived documents, and never bypass website protections.

Measured levels

Where a utility publishes fluoride results, we show the figure and period on the town page and on our fluoride levels table. Levels vary by month and supply zone, so treat them as a guide and check your utility's latest report.

Keeping it current

Water supplies change: councils vote, plants break, new systems are commissioned. We recheck data regularly, log every reclassification on our updates and corrections page, and show each town's history on its page. If you know of a change, tell us.

What we don't do

We don't give medical or dental advice, and we don't take money from water utilities, health bodies, filter companies or campaign groups. See our editorial standards.
